Inauguration

Some people won't like the idea of this blog. They'll call me anti-business, an "Occupy" kind of guy, someone who needs to get a job. They'll tell me, "If you don't like Starbucks' prices, don't go there".

OK. Well, I have a job, and I'm grateful for it. I do believe in businesses thriving, but I don't believe in CEOs and executives making obscene amounts of money for doing the same work that their front-line staff do. Occupy? We're in 2012 now.

Don't get me wrong. I like Starbucks. Having looked around for good coffee in Vancouver (at a reasonable price), I find I can't beat them for taste. The problem is, I cannot seem to find any coffee shops that believe in decent, consumer friendly pricing. And this includes Starbucks.

Having worked at Starbucks, I can tell you that the price you pay for a cup of coffee is quite inflated. But the thing is, that's not criminal. Starbucks can charge you whatever they wish, and if the consumer says, "OK, we'll pay that price", there's no incentive to lower their prices.

This blog is for the average person that just cannot justify paying around $5.00 for a large cup of what is admittedly an essential drug for most of the Western workforce. My goal here is not to bring Starbucks down; like I said, they make really nice espresso-based drinks.

I digress... the point here is to post, and encourage others to share, their (legitimate) tricks and ideas for getting Starbucks quality drinks at the average Joe's prices. We don't need to be spending as much as we do for our java fix.

Stay tuned for my next post... "The Card".
